Edward by Care-bear10 (2b)
Edward Van Alstyne was a brave young boy who had a big job to do. He had to save his mother's life and fire a gun that not even his father had fired. His father was captain of the Guilderland. Edward was mighty proud of that. Captain Van Alstyne left Edward, a his mother, and his sister home alone while he went out to face the French and the Indians. While he was gone the Indians came to Edward's farm. The Spanish gun was taller and heavier than he was, but this did not stop him. Sweat dripped down his neck when his mother went outside where the Indians were hiding. When she yelled "Atoord!" (which is Dutch for Edward), he fired the gun and fell back with a thud. An Indian tomahawk hit his mother's shoulder, but Edward killed all three of the Indians with the Spanish Gun. He did something not even his father's men could do. He was a hero.
